Crook Point Bascule Bridge Design Competition

Horsley Witten’s vision for reuse of the Crook Point Bascule Bridge and adjacent Seekonk River shorelines was selected as the design competition winner from almost 80 international proposals!

Opportunity

The Crook Point Bascule Bridge, currently unused and fixed in the upright position, is a treasured element of the city’s identity. To build momentum for preservation and reuse of the iconic bridge, the City of Providence hosted a design competition in 2020 to solicit ideas for its reuse.

Solution

HW partnered with urban designer and local Professor Jonathan Harris to develop a vision for a series of unique riverfront public spaces to connect people physically and visually to both a restored riverbank and to a celebrated bridge structure.
