Climate Resilience

We help you adapt to an ever-changing environmental landscape.

Horsley Witten Group helps government agencies, tribes, and private organizations adapt to a changing climate. Unpredictable conditions require a fresh look at policies, investments, and infrastructure at the local and regional scale with a focus on implementation. Our climate-focused work includes vulnerability assessments, resilience planning, adaptation plans, code revisions, emergency preparedness plans, and training. We can also assist with the grant funding process. We work closely with municipalities, states, U.S. EPA, and NOAA.

Areas of Expertise

Our climate team brings specialized knowledge across a broad range of project types, with particular depth in sustainable infrastructure and coastal resilience.

  • Vulnerability Assessment and Preparedness Planning

We support the U.S. EPA in providing emergency response technical assistance and guidance for the water sector.

  •  Hazard Mitigation Planning

A hazard mitigation plan that is up-to-date helps communities plan for and reduce the impacts of natural hazards and provides critical access to funding.

  • Municipal Vulnerability Preparedness Program

MA Municipal Vulnerability Preparedness (MVP) programs provide municipalities with support to plan and implement climate change resiliency projects.

  • Emergency Preparedness

We work with government and private sectors to develop, refine, and update emergency preparedness and response plans.

  • Floodplain Management

A community-based program of preventive and corrective measures designed to reduce the risk of current and future flooding and build community resilience.

  • Adaptation Planning

Adaption planning is the ongoing process of preparing for, managing, and adjusting to the real or expected impacts of climate change.

  • Zoning Code Audits and Revisions

Our staff can identify a variety of code revisions to meet climate resilience goals. We can also identify complementary goals that can be addressed through town and other policies.

  • GIS Analysis and Scenario Modeling

Geographic Information Services (GIS) are an integral part of our entire body of services. We use GIS to prepare for field assessments, facilitate decision making, engage with the public, and to educate public officials.

  • Training and Public Engagement

We offer custom workshops, course books and curriculum development, and certification programs for public and private sectors on a number of topics.

The stormwater master plan aims to alleviate stormwater impacts while maintaining alignment with the museum's mission to preserve historic buildings and cultural landscapes for future generations.
