Sustainable Design Principles

Horsley Witten Group provides ecological design services for public and private sector clients. Through a holistic design process, HW excels in the integration of sustainable design principles with built and natural environments. Our staff are committed to creating functional, vibrant, and culturally integrated spaces.

HW approaches projects of all scales with an integrated and collaborative mindset that values clear and meaningful engagement with project stakeholders and communities. Our team of landscape architects is dedicated to the creation, restoration, and preservation of our most valuable resources while fostering a strong connection between people and nature.

Restoration

• Project recommendations will depict form, features, and character of a property as it appeared at a particular period of time by removal of features from other periods of its history and reconstruction of missing features from the restoration period
• Limited and sensitive upgrading of drainage systems to make parks functional is appropriate within a restoration project
• New construction of the form, features, and details of a non-surviving site, landscape, building, structure, or object for the purpose of replicating its appearance at a specific period of time and in its historic location.

Preservation

• Work will sustain existing form, integrity, and materials of a historic property
• Protect and stabilize what is there
•  Repair historic materials and features

Rehabilitation

• Project will have a compatible use for a property through repair, alterations, or additions while preserving those portions or features which convey its historical, cultural, or architectural values.

HW's thoughtful approach to green infrastructure design has been invaluable to RDLA. We wholeheartedly appreciate their expertise and the successful outcomes they consistently achieve.
