Horsley Witten Group is proud to be assisting Heritage Museums & Gardens on our fourth project together by collaborating with GWWO Architects on the design, permitting, and construction of the new Welcome Center. The property is located on 100 acres of magnificent, landscaped grounds and includes trails on the banks of Shawme Pond in Historic Sandwich, MA.
HW provided civil engineering along with landscape design for the three new sustainable “green” buildings and new ADA accessible pathway from the Welcome center to the gardens. The site design includes site analysis, soil evaluation, building siting, parking lot layout, ADA accessibility, grading and drainage, utilities, and wastewater treatment.
The design features a similar Green Stormwater Infrastructure (GSI) approach used before on past site projects, which includes bioswales, bioretention areas, and underground infiltration chambers to treat and manage the increased runoff due to proposed site changes. Ray Dunetz Landscape Architecture has asssited us with the hardscape elements and the interior plaza grading.
